FEMINIST at Miami Art Week: Exploring the Intersection of Art, Activism, and Bodily Autonomy
In the backdrop of one of the biggest art gatherings in the world, FEMINIST brought the intersection of art and activism to Miami Art Week. From December 4-7, FEMINIST joined forces with artist Autumn Breon for an exhibition about girlhood, care, and bodily autonomy; held intimate conversations about reproductive health and rights, and more as we took over Miami Beach — FEMINIST style, of course.
Florida is on the frontlines of the fight for reproductive freedom. And in a week when Miami becomes a citywide gallery—filled with installations, murals, performances, and art—FEMINIST carved out a moment to gather, reflect, and imagine what care and autonomy can look like right now.
Every guest left with a FEMINIST News zine in hand—because information sharing is mutual aid, and the news we need doesn't always make headlines.
FEMINIST kicked off Miami Art Week with Art& Autonomy, an intimate salon gathering with artists, activists, curators, and creators where a communal meal was shared alongside grounding conversation at the intersection of art and organizing, asking attendees to dream about a future where everybody has bodily autonomy. What does it feel like? Look like? Sound like? Across the table, people responded saying: “I imagine it’s bright, full of color, vibrant, and feels safe to every woman and gender-expansive person roaming the earth.”
Florida-based reproductive health org Women's Emergency Network grounded us in the reality of Florida's abortion bans—a reminder of why we're gathering, dreaming, and fighting in the first place.
As we waded through rich conversations, attendees also got to witness a little bit of magic from magician Nicole Cardoza, whose special magic show rooted us in collective imagination, inviting us to dream into the futures liberation requires. She shared with attendees, “It’s important to remember that we’re always living in somebody's dream – so when we come together to suspend disbelief, that is a radical act. That is a revolutionary act.”
After lunch, attendees got to explore our FEMINIST News’ installation with Autumn Breon at the Satellite Art Fair, Planet Esoterica — an immersive experience reflecting on how information shapes girlhood, care, and bodily autonomy, and how we imagine futures rooted in community and shared truth.
The exhibition, which ran through the duration of Miami Art Week, transformed a hotel room into something urgent and otherworldly: a pink, immersive space that cuts through reproductive health misinformation and reimagines what care looks like when we build it ourselves. As participants explored Planet Esoterica, they opened up with powerful stories about their bodies, abortion experiences, and reproductive journeys, turning the installation into a communal space of truth-telling and connection.
You’ll find The Care Machine (a hot pink vending machine with free Narcan, emergency contraceptives, and beauty products), the FEMINIST Newsstand, and the premiere of Feminist News from Planet Esoterica—a video installation that treats information sharing as mutual aid.
will offer free naloxone, emergency contraceptives, and beauty products.
Planet Esoterica, at Satellite Art Show, was made in collaboration with Autumn Breon.
