Nobody’s Free Until We’re All Free
4th of July is canceled due to lack of independence. This is what people in the U.S. are still fighting for:
THE RIGHT TO BODILY AUTONOMY AND REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM
Following the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022, 41 U.S. states have introduced abortion bans or restrictions, and an additional 4 states have enforced 6-week abortion bans.
Approximately 21 million people of reproductive age now live in states where abortion is banned or restricted.
LGBTQIA+ RIGHTS
In the last few years, States have advanced a record number of bills that attack LGBTQ+ rights, especially Transgender youth. There are currently 598 anti-LGBTQ+ bills in the U.S.,139 of which are aimed at restricting access to healthcare.
Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for Trans youth, opening the door for more attacks on Trans healthcare, especially for those living in states hostile to LGBTQ+ rights.
SAFETY AND JUSTICE FOR IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES
Under the Trump administration, DHS
reported a 627% increase in monthly ICE raids. In pursuit of arrest targets, the agency turned to aggressive tactics, including detaining people at immigration court hearings and expediting removals, often denying individuals their right to due process.
Today, millions of immigrants, including DACA recipients, asylum seekers, and undocumented workers, remain in legal limbo, with limited access to basic rights like education, housing, and healthcare.
ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE
The U.S. Congressional Budget Office estimates that Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” is going to strip healthcare coverage from more than 17 million people, primarily low-income Americans, including children, seniors, and people with disabilities.
In a country where over 27 million people
are already uninsured, this bill is going to
push healthcare further out of reach, deepening racial and economic disparities and putting lives at risk.
LAND BACK, CLIMATE JUSTICE, AND INDIGENOUS FUTURES
Trump is working to roll back protections on public lands, opening the door to expanded oil, gas, and mining operations. The U.S. Department of Agriculture lifted safeguards on over 264,000 acres across Nevada and New Mexico, paving the way for extraction on lands many Indigenous communities consider sacred.
These moves threaten ecosystems, accelerate the climate crisis, and violate Indigenous sovereignty — whose stewardship is essential to protecting both culture and planet.
EQUAL ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION
Several states have banned affirmative action in college admissions, and a 2023 Supreme Court ruling ended race and sex conscious admissions nationwide.
Meanwhile, censorship efforts are still escalating: in 2024 alone, there were 821 attempts to ban books, targeting 2,452 titles — nearly half of which were by or about LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC people.
FREEDOM FROM ALL SYSTEMS OF OPPRESSION
“There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives.”
—Audre Lorde
