Racial Disparities in Incarceration

Our systems are failing Black
cis and trans women, femmes, gender nonconforming people, and non-binary folks.

They are the fastest-growing jailed population in
the United States. Moreover, Black women are:

  • 2x more likely to be jailed than white women.

  • More likely to die in
jail than men.

  •
More likely to to experience abuse
while incarcerated.

This isn’t justice. It’s systemic harm.

Criminalizing Poverty

Bail isn’t justice, it’s punishment for being poor.

60% of women in jails haven’t been convicted of a crime, they're legally innocent, but are being kept from their families because they can’t afford bail. The median bail for a felony
is $10,000—8 months of income for the average detained person.
